BEGINNERS CLASS DESCRIPTION

This course is for beginners, as well as those who have experience in other dance genres.  We go right back to basics.  Keeping beat and learning 6 and 8 count rhythms associated with swing dance moves.  Partnered charleston is also covered.  With a lot of repetition and practice time, we’ll have you up and dancing in no time. Although this is a partnered dance, it is not necessary to bring one to class.  Come as a couple or on your own, everyone one is welcome.  Frequent partner rotation during class ensures that everyone gets to dance.  If you come as a couple and would like to stay out of the rotation, let us know.  Bring a water bottle.  It can be hot work moving about.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that don’t grip.  You want to be able to turn easily.  Because this is a close dance, please consider your personal hygiene.  Wear deodorant and check the freshness of your breath.

The aim of this course is to give you a taste of swing dancing in it’s many forms that can be further explored in the Intermediate blockcourse.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS DESCRIPTION

For this class, it is recommended that at least two Beginners blockcourses be completed.  You can repeat beginners as many times as you want.  The more practice you get, the better.  The steps and moves taught in the Beginners class form the foundation, essential for any swing dancer taking this class.  Dancers must be confident with their swing-out, lindy turn, lindy circle and basic partnered charleston.  At this level, things get interesting.  Variations on these basic steps are taught.  Add a little technique and you have the makings of a dance that comes alive and is so much fun to be a part of.

“BRIDGING – THE- GAP”

Sometimes the gap between Beginners and Intermediate might seem too big.  Swing Dance Company B offer “Bridging-the-gap” mini-blockcourse focusing on swing-out, lindy turn, lindy circle and partnered charleston.  With repetition and ample practice time, this will increase your confidence, preparing you for the next step….Intermediate Swing.  Yay!
